About the Program

The Women Offshore MentorSHIP is a global virtual mentoring initiative designed to reduce the gender gap in offshore and maritime industries. Launched in 2017, the program connects experienced seafarers with emerging professionals—including cadets and students—to foster career development, confidence, and community.

Open to women and nonbinary individuals working or studying in maritime or offshore oil and gas sectors, the program offers structured mentoring cycles, resources, and engagement opportunities. In 2021, the program welcomed its first male mentor to explore allyship and inclusive support.

Program Structure

  • 6-Month Rotations: Participants are matched with mentors or mentees for a six-month cycle, with a recommended 3–6 sessions per rotation.
  • Global Access: Open to participants worldwide, with no cost to join thanks to generous sponsorship.
  • Software Platform: Powered by Mentorloop, a mobile-friendly platform that facilitates pairings, goal setting, and communication.
  • Participant Management: Applications open in July and January. Matches are made based on career alignment (e.g., engineers with engineers, offshore energy with offshore energy).
  • Active Oversight: Administrators monitor engagement, remove inactive accounts, and host webinars and meetings to support participants.
