The U.S. Brig Niagara, otherwise known as Flagship Niagara, represents one of the most historically authentic tall ships in the United States. This version of “the Brig” is a replica reproduction of Oliver Hazard Perry’s relief flagship during the American victory at the Battle of Lake Erie on September 10, 1813. All iterations of this stunning ship were constructed within the sheltered natural harbor of Presque Isle Bay in Erie, Pennsylvania including this version which began construction in 1988. Her first sailing season commenced in 1992 and has been sailing nearly continuously since (albeit during the COVID-19 pandemic).

The ship is homeported at the Erie Maritime Museum and is owned and operated by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission – the official historical agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Over the decades, the ship has offered several modes of interpretation including, but not limited to, dockside historical tours and activities, day sails, and extended voyage programs. All students and trainees can expect a highly authentic onboard living experience, including sleeping in hammocks, and meals cooked off of a woodstove.
