Swift

Story

Swift serves as the flagship for Maine Windjammer Cruises, offering windjammer charters, touring and sail training since 1936. Designed by naval architect Murray Peterson in 1937, she was built and launched by Scott Kennedy in 1983 in East Boothbay ME. She initially served as a private yacht prior to being acquired by her current owners, Capt. and Mrs. Ray Williamson, who retrofitted her for the passenger trade.

The Williamsons have owned the company since 1986, prior to which Ray served as Captain for its various vessels and earlier served as a charter boat captain in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Before acquiring the Swift, Capt. and Mrs. Williamson restored and operated three historic vessels out of Camden, two of which were designated as Maritime National Historic Landmarks in 1991. Maine Windjammer Cruises has trained sailors throughout the last 40 years, many of whom later earned their own Captain’s licenses.

Swift’s training cruises have a minimum of two weeks on the water to longer passages throughout the regular season.
