Story

Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation (PYSF) operates Ocean Queen V, a 55-foot yawl designed by Philip Rhodes and built in 1951 by Abeking & Rasmussen, as the centerpiece of its Wooden Classics Program. Based in Redwood City, California, the vessel supports PYSF’s Maritime Trades Program and Classic Racing Program, offering youth hands-on experience in traditional boat restoration, seamanship, and marine systems. Under the guidance of skilled mentors, students learn woodworking, rigging, painting, and engine care while developing the confidence and craftsmanship needed for careers in the maritime trades.

Ocean Queen V serves as a training platform in classic yacht regattas in the San Francisco Bay, where youth and community sailors gain advanced sailing skills in a competitive atmosphere. The vessel also hosts dockside and onboard educational programs focused on maritime history, environmental stewardship, and marine career pathways.
