Story

Gloucester City Sail, a NJ non-profit, is the owner/operator of the Schooner North Wind. The North Wind a is 75ft Treworgy schooner built in 1995 to work in the Camden, ME windjammer fleet. Early this century, she was relocated to the Delaware River region and currently has its home port in Gloucester City, NJ by the Walt Whitman bridge.

Today the North Wind operates as a school ship, serving area youth with educational cruises on the Delaware River. Youth from 5th graders and above participate in STEAM based mini-courses while underway. These range from sections on “what floats our boat”, river chemistry/ecology, micro plastics, weather & tides to navigation.

We are an all volunteer organization and mostly fund our operations with public evening sails, history themed sails with invited historians, fireworks cruises, regional festivals as well as private charters.
