By fostering collaboration, conducting research, and advancing education, the Working Group looks to safeguard the lives of crew members, trainees, and passengers while cultivating a culture of safety and preparedness across the maritime industry.
“We are thrilled to see Nicolas recognized for his dedication to maritime safety and his leadership in the field,” said Stuart Gilfillen, Executive Director of Tall Ships America. “This appointment highlights his expertise and underscores his standing in the tall ships community. It also reinforces the importance of prioritizing the well-being of those who work, train, and sail aboard ships. The Working Group’s initiatives will undoubtedly contribute to a safer and more resilient maritime workforce. As a Senior Fellow, Nicolas will collaborate with a diverse network of maritime professionals, policy experts, and researchers to address critical safety issues. His contributions to the Working Group will be drawn from his experience in operational management, experiential education, research and analysis, and tall ship operations.
“It is an honor to take on this role with COPE° and to lead the Working Group on Safety Aloft and Overside in the Maritime Workforce,” said Nicolas. “COPE°’s dedication to responsibility, transparency, diversity, and innovation resonates deeply with my own values and will serve as guiding principles for every aspect of this Working Group. Safety is at the heart of every successful maritime endeavor, and I look forward to working with a passionate team to make meaningful progress in protecting the people who make our industry thrive.”
