Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail
The Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail marks the roads and waterways used by the Continental Army under the command of George Washington and Jean-Baptiste de Rochambeau’s Expédition Particulière on their journey from Newport, Rhode Island to Yorktown, Virginia. The Trail’s partnership with Tall Ships America involves funding educational sails for underserved populations that address local ties to the American Revolution.
The Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route is the lead agency on a 3-year National Parks Service grant with Tall Ships America and Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England for the Women on the Water program. Participants in Girl Scout’s Mariner Scout program will participate in educational programing that details the Washington–Rochambeau National Historic Trail’s land and sea components in Rhode Island, participate in half-day sails onboard tall ships that include water-based activities and taught skills in swimming, safety, rescue, kayaking, sailing, navigation and more. They will also explore maritime career and learn to protect the marine environment.
More information about the Trail can be found here, and more information about Washington-Rochambeau funded educational sails in 2022 can be found here.
