- Job Description:
The Chief Mate aboard the schooner Tree of Life supports the Captain in all aspects of vessel operations while sailing throughout Narragansett Bay, RI, and on coastal passages between New York City and Maine. This role includes managing crew and deck operations, standing watch as an officer offshore, and assisting with routine vessel maintenance. The Chief Mate plays a key role in delivering exceptional, safety-focused service to a luxury clientele, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and a high-quality onboard experience. Reports directly to the Captain.
- Program & Itinerary:
The schooner Tree of Life offers a curated luxury sailing program combining classic seamanship with exceptional hospitality. Based in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, the vessel provides elegant day sails and private charters, showcasing the beauty of the bay from the water. The program also features luxury term charters, typically week-long voyages exploring the coastal waters of Southern New England and Maine, with bespoke itineraries tailored to each charter group. In addition, Tree of Life participates in special maritime events, including the 250th Anniversary Tall Ships celebration in New York City, offering guests a rare opportunity to sail as part of a historic fleet.
- Responsibilities:
The Chief Mate is responsible for the day-to-day management of the crew and all deck operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and professional vessel operations. This role oversees deck organization, routine vessel maintenance, and operational readiness, while supporting the Captain in the execution of voyages. The Chief Mate reports directly to the Captain, helps ensure the vessel runs smoothly and efficiently, and stands watch offshore as a licensed officer, maintaining safe navigation and adherence to maritime regulations.
- Qualifications/Experience:
USCG 100 ton Master upon Near Costal Waters with AUX Sail
- Compensation: $800 $800/week
