World Ocean School is seeking a seasonal Mate for SSV Denis Sullivan in St. Croix.

World Ocean School exists to provide students of all backgrounds with immersive opportunities to learn to care for themselves, their crew, and their ship, becoming vessels of change in the world they inherit.

December- March: The vessel operates out of St. Croix in the USVI. There we carry out our mission through week long school programs and overnight trips around the USVIs and Puerto Rico.

March-April: The vessel sails to New England

May-September – Day programs and overnight trips with middle school to college aged students. A typical overnight program is ten days in length allowing for extensive sailing around New England.

October – November- Sail south to the USVI.

Coordinate with Captain to develop daily work plan and schedule

Run the deck during sails

Facilitate shipboard maintenance

Stand watch during overnight programs

Participate in education programs

Provide instruction to deckhands and support their development of maritime skills

Live aboard position with room and board. Travel expenses covered. Pay will be based on experience and qualifications.
